WhatsSnap Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

In this Privacy Policy, “WhatsSnap”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the developer and operator of the WhatsSnap browser extension.

2. What WhatsSnap does

WhatsSnap works inside WhatsApp Web to help you find, download, name, and organise media files from the chats and groups you choose. The extension is designed so that WhatsApp media is downloaded directly from WhatsApp Web to your computer.

WhatsSnap is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with WhatsApp, Meta, or any of their affiliates.

3. Information we collect

We collect the minimum information needed to provide WhatsSnap and manage paid access.

The personal information we may collect includes:

• your email address, for example when you purchase WhatsSnap Pro, manage paid access, or contact us for support;
• payment and licence information, such as payment status, purchase date, transaction reference, plan status, and billing email;
• support information you choose to send to us, such as your email content, screenshots, or issue descriptions.

WhatsSnap also handles WhatsApp Web content locally on your device to provide its download and organisation features. This local handling is explained in Section 4. Local handling does not mean that WhatsApp Web content is uploaded to WhatsSnap servers.

We do not collect your first name, last name, phone number, postal address, social media profile information, GPS location, phonebook, device camera data, or advertising identifiers unless you choose to include that information in a support message.

4. WhatsApp Web content handled locally

To provide its core function, WhatsSnap handles and processes information visible in the WhatsApp Web chat you choose. This may include media files, chat names, sender names, message dates, message times, file names, and file types.

Although WhatsSnap does not upload this information to WhatsSnap servers, the extension still handles and processes it locally. Local handling may include reading the WhatsApp Web page in your browser, detecting available media and file metadata, filtering by selected media types and dates, preparing downloads, naming files, creating folder structures, checking duplicates, and applying your chosen settings.

WhatsApp Web content remains on your device and within WhatsApp Web, except where it is downloaded to the folder you choose or where you voluntarily send information to us for support. WhatsSnap does not upload your WhatsApp messages, media files, documents, audio files, videos, photos, chat history, or contacts to WhatsSnap servers.

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to download, store, use, and share any media or documents from WhatsApp Web, especially where those files contain personal information about other people.

5. Local storage and saved settings

WhatsSnap may store settings locally in your browser or on your device. This may include selected media types, date range preferences, folder and file naming options, duplicate handling information, download count information, and saved settings per chat for Pro users.

Local settings remain on your device unless you delete them, clear browser or extension data, reset the extension, or uninstall WhatsSnap. If the extension uses browser sync storage and you have browser sync enabled, your browser provider may sync some extension settings through your browser account. That syncing is controlled by your browser provider, not WhatsSnap.

6. How we use information

We use information to:

• provide the WhatsSnap extension and its download features;
• locally scan, handle, and process the WhatsApp Web chat you choose for matching media;
• download and organise files according to your selected settings;
• skip duplicates and manage download limits;
• save Pro settings per chat where that feature is enabled;
• process payments and manage WhatsSnap Pro access;
• respond to support requests;
• keep the extension secure, reliable, and compliant with applicable rules and laws.

7. Legal bases for processing

Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Contract: to provide WhatsSnap, process Pro purchases, manage access, and deliver features requested by you.
• Legitimate interests: to maintain, secure, improve, and support WhatsSnap, provided those interests are not overridden by your privacy rights.
• Legal obligation: to keep records where required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, or legal compliance.
• Consent: where we ask for consent for a specific optional use of information.

8. Payments

WhatsSnap Pro payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe may collect and process payment information, billing information, transaction data, fraud prevention information, and other information needed to process payments.

We do not receive or store your full card number. We may receive limited payment information from Stripe, such as your billing email, payment status, transaction reference, purchase date, and plan status, so that we can confirm and manage your Pro access.

Stripe processes personal information under its own privacy policy and legal terms.

9. Analytics, advertising, and marketing

WhatsSnap does not use Google Analytics or similar tracking tools.

WhatsSnap does not show ads.

WhatsSnap does not use remarketing services.

WhatsSnap does not sell personal information.

WhatsSnap does not use or transfer user data for personalised advertising, retargeted advertising, or interest-based advertising.

WhatsSnap does not send marketing emails unless this policy is updated and any legally required consent is obtained first.

10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

WhatsSnap’s use and transfer of user data received from Chrome extension APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

WhatsSnap only uses user data to provide or improve its single purpose and user-facing features: helping users download and organise media from WhatsApp Web chats and groups selected by the user.

Where WhatsSnap handles WhatsApp Web media or chat information, it does so locally in the user’s browser and on the user’s computer, unless the user chooses to send information to us for support.

WhatsSnap does not transfer user data except where necessary to provide or improve the extension, process payments, comply with applicable law, protect security, investigate abuse, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

WhatsSnap does not use or transfer user data for advertising purposes. WhatsSnap does not allow humans to read WhatsApp Web media, messages, or chat data unless you choose to send information to us for support, it is necessary for security or abuse investigation, it is required by law, or you have given explicit permission.

11. Sharing information

We only share personal information where necessary and limited to the purpose involved. This may include:

• Stripe: to process payments, confirm payment status, prevent fraud, and manage Pro access;
• legal, regulatory, or security recipients: where required by law, to protect rights, prevent fraud, investigate abuse, or respond to lawful requests;
• business transfer recipients: if WhatsSnap or its assets are sold, transferred, merged, or reorganised.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share WhatsApp Web media or chat contents with advertisers, analytics providers, or marketing platforms.

12. International transfers

If personal information is processed outside your country, we will take steps intended to protect it in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Stripe and other payment-related providers may process payment information in countries outside your location, subject to their own privacy, security, and data transfer arrangements.

13. How long we keep information

WhatsApp Web media downloaded through WhatsSnap is saved directly to your computer and is controlled by you. WhatsSnap does not keep copies of downloaded WhatsApp media on WhatsSnap servers.

Local settings and duplicate handling information are kept on your device until you delete them, clear browser or extension data, reset the extension, or uninstall WhatsSnap.

Email, payment, licence, and support records are kept only for as long as needed to provide WhatsSnap, manage Pro access, respond to support requests, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal, tax, accounting, and compliance requirements.

14. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect the information we process. However, no browser extension, website, payment system, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You should only use WhatsSnap on devices and browser profiles that you trust and control.

15. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to:

• access the personal information we hold about you;
• ask us to correct inaccurate information;
• ask us to delete information;
• ask us to restrict or object to certain processing;
• request a copy of your information in a portable format;
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
• complain to your local data protection authority.

16. Children

WhatsSnap is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

17. Third-party services

WhatsSnap works with WhatsApp Web, which is operated by WhatsApp and Meta. Your use of WhatsApp Web is governed by WhatsApp and Meta’s own terms and privacy policies.

Payments are processed by Stripe and are also subject to Stripe’s own terms and privacy policies.

18. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
